Arsenal and Nigerian legend Kanu to attend football dinner
Johannesburg – Arsenal and Nigerian legend Nwankwo Kanu, who was recently appointed as the first ever ambassador of the African Football Alliance (AFA) will be one of the VIP Guests at the Alliance’s Football Friendship Dinner taking place in Sandton, Johannesburg on Saturday 17 November 2018 immediately after the long-awaited AFCON’19 return match between Bafana Bafana and Nigeria’s Super Eagles.
The Dinner, will also bestow recognition and merit awards to football and business luminaries for their unselfish contribution towards the beautiful game in their respective countries, on the continent as well as internationally.
The non-aligned AFA was launched in 2017 and was attended by among others, the South African Football Players Union, (SAFPU), Footballers Union of Botswana (FUB), South African Football Coaches Association (SAFCA), African Football Institute (AFI), National Association of Nigeria Professional Footballers (NANPF) with speeches delivered by football analyst Emeka Enyadike and a host of other football personalities from across the continent.
Mr. Amaju Pinnick, President of the Nigerian Football Federation (NFF), delivered the opening address at the 2nd edition of the Forum, which was held in Lagos, Nigeria in February 2018. Pinnick will once again be one of the key speakers at the Dinner.
The Dinner will feature panel discussions with high profile administrators, past and current players, coaches, sponsors, clubs and other football stakeholders debating the future of African football on the world stage.
A list of personalities who’ll be receiving Awards at the Dinner will be released a few days before the event.
According to Gerrit Davids, convener of the Dinner, “The Dinner is in line with the objectives of the AFA, as an independent formation to create a home for all stakeholders not catered for in other continental structures.”
